Pencil Portraits Ireland

Your Precious Photos Brought to Life

Cerri Moynihan is an Irish artist, originally from Dublin, who by a certain twist of fate ended up in Baltimore, West Cork, Ireland, and fell so in love with the people and place that she never left. Cerri is a member of the Craft Council of Ireland.

"I have been drawing with graphite pencils from as far back as I can remember. What appealed to me was the fact that pencils were widely available, portable, and instantly usable. I also saw the graphite pencil as a medium which was overlooked, and I thought this a shame. After studying art many years ago, my work took me off in other directions and drawing became a hobby. Years later, serendipity led me to becoming a full time portrait artist."

All Pencil Portraits Ireland’s work is carried out from your photographs. The most important aspect is that the picture is in focus. Also, the more contrast in your photograph makes for a more ‘dramatic’ portrait. If you would prefer a more contemporary look, why not select a picture with the person/people looking away from the camera, or in motion?

Portraits are drawn on high quality heavyweight cartridge paper, using graphite pencils ranging from HB to 8B. Rather than using a crosshatching style I use a blending technique. I don’t like to impose size restrictions, I would rather discuss with you what your preferences are, but as an indicator, the sample portraits you see on this page are roughly 28” X 32” (71cm X 81cm) when framed.

Please feel free to contact me with any queries you may have. Also, if you wish to email me with a photograph and message I would be delighted to give a no obligation free quotation. Enquiries from overseas are most welcome.
